Yorkshire Dales Cheese Festival 2018

We're thrilled to be bringing you our second Yorkshire Dales Cheese Festival - running this year from 15 to 23 September 2018!

It's is set to be even bigger and better than our inaugural event in 2017. A fantastic celebration of local produce - and everything and anything cheese.

A multitude of producers and aficionados from across the Yorkshire Dales National Park and Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty will be taking part and inviting you to forty fabulous happenings that will make your mouth water.

What's happening

We'll be kicking off once again with a two-day festival-within-a-festival at the home of Wallace and Grommit's beloved nibble - Cheese Festival @ Wensleydale Creamery. Running across the weekend of Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 September, there will be a host of cookery, cheese-making, grading and pairing demonstrations - and, of course, plenty of tastings. There will also be a chance for the kids to get active and creative with fun family activities.

And we'll be finishing with a meaty banger - the Beer & Beef Festival hosted by The Whole Roast Ox Co at Springhill Farm, Jervaulx, near Masham, on Saturday 22 September.

The first weekend of the festival will lead into a further seven days of feasting from Monday 17 to Sunday 23 September right across the Yorkshire Dales. Restaurants, cafes, farms and attractions will be coming together to champion the fantastic range of food that is produced on the doorstep. Everything from special cheese-themed menus to activities in dairying country to help you work up an appetite.

Keep an eye on our Programme page for details.

A cheesy story

Today’s burgeoning cheese scene across the Dales is thanks in part to the Cistercian monks who brought their fromage-making skills over from Normandy. They settled at abbeys such as Jervaulx and Fountains back in the 11th century and started making Wensleydale cheese.

Now the iconic Yorkshire Wensleydale has been joined by a range of Yorkshire Dales delights such as Coverdale, Swaledale, Ribblesdale, Yorkshire Blue and Fine Fettle cheeses, and the food’s success has spawned a whole side-industry with preserves, chutneys and accessories all being created within the National Park.

So bookmark September 2018 in your diary, get your teeth into some delicious Yorkshire produce and have a real celebration with us.

Funding for the Cheese Festival and the wider project it sits within has been secured from the Rural Development Programme for England, funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD): Europe investing in rural areas.
