Wensleydale Creamery

The Wensleydale Creamery for all things to do with Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese.

We're thrilled to be bringing you our second Yorkshire Dales Cheese Festival from 15 to 22 September 2018!

It's is set to be even bigger and better than our inaugural event in 2017. A fantastic celebration of local produce - and everything and anything cheese!

A multitude of producers and aficionados from across the Yorkshire Dales National Park and Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty will be taking part and inviting you to delicious happenings that will make your mouth water.

We'll be kicking off once again with a fabulous two-day mini festival at the home of Wallace and Grommit's beloved cheesy nibble - Wensleydale Creamery. Running across the weekend of Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 September, there will be a host of cookery, cheese-making, grading and drink-pairing demonstrations - and, of course, plenty of tastings. There will also be a chance for the kids to get active with and creative with fun family craft activities. In 2017 we had sheep to pet and a bouncy castle.

And if you can't get to Hawes, don't worry - there will be a cheese-related events at venues all across the Dales that weekend in support of the hub event. Keep an eye on the Programme for details.

The first weekend will then lead into a further six days of fabulous feasting from Monday 17 to Saturday 22 September right across the Yorkshire Dales, with restaurants, cafes, farms and attractions coming together to champion the fantastic range of food that is produced on the doorstep.

Full details for all Yorkshire Dales Cheese Festival events can be found as we get nearer the time via our What's On calendar.

Today’s burgeoning cheese scene across the Dales is thanks in part to the Cistercian monks who brought their fromage-making skills over from Normandy. They settled at abbeys such as Jervaulx and Fountains back in the 11th century and started making Wensleydale cheese.

Now the iconic Yorkshire Wensleydale has been joined by a range of Yorkshire Dales delights such as Coverdale, Swaledale, Ribblesdale, Yorkshire Blue and Fine Fettle cheeses, and the food’s success has spawned a whole side-industry with preserves, chutneys and accessories all being created within the National Park.

So bookmark September 2018 in your diary, get your teeth into some delicious Yorkshire produce and have a real celebration with us.

Funding for the Cheese Festival and the wider project it sits within has been secured from the Rural Development Programme for England, funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD): Europe investing in rural areas.
